With more than 100 now installed worldwide, the Durst Rho is living up to the interest that the prototype generated when it was introduced at Photokina 2000. Response was very strong from both photo labs and printers, so much so that the Canadian distributor received several advance deposits for the new machines. Four machines have now been installed in Canada and more expected.
The Durst Rho 160 Plus is the latest version of a high performance industrial production inkjet printer/press, using UV-curing pigmented inks and designed for heavy duty, continuous production in the photographic, commercial, screen printing and printing industries. This new large format direct digital printing device offers high flexibility and efficiency. Printed materials do not require any additional finishing and are ready straight off the press.
The Rho 160 Plus is a breakthrough in wide format printing. It offers an unbeatable combination of high quality printing, fast production speeds, low cost consumables and high flexibility with easy and fast media changes and minimum waste to make wide format printing simpler and more profitable than ever before.
Like all Durst products, it is designed to prevent obsolescence. Just as all Lambdas can be upgraded to match the current version, the original Rho 160 can beupgraded to the standards and features of the Rho 160 Plus.
The inks have a wide colour gamut and use the same pigments as car paints for long term outdoor usage. The UV curing allows printing on less expensive uncoated stocks as well as a wide range of materials that only screen printing could print on before.
It is capable of printing on either rolls or boards. Rho owners have produced customer work on a variety of substrates including glass, aluminium, Plexiglass, carpet tiles, wood, various veneers, Crezone (MDL board) as well as standard materials like banner vinyl, adhesive vinyl, Styrene, Sintra, Gatorboard, etc. The Rho is also capable of printing on fabrics including mesh vinyls, cottons, canvas, and many other fabrics. It also can print boards edge-to-edge. (See our RESOURCES page for more information)
The system is capable of printing on standard uncoated materials at speeds up to 850 sq.ft./hour. The 2.5 gallon ink tanks can be refilled while the printer is running and a single person can switch between roll and board media in less than four minutes. In fact the whole printer is designed to be run entirely by a single operator. The software is the same as Durst's well established Lambda printers and is very easy to use.
The use of a dual processor Compaq UNIX system allows the Durst to do functions on-the-fly that other printers would require separate file preparation and RIPs to do. When a small proof print and a cropped section are required they can be printed instantly from the single original. In addition colour or contrast changes, sizing or cropping adjustments, screening or panelling changes, and more, can all be done instantly without reprocessing.
Whether your requirement is for one print or a hundred or more, the Rho 160 Plus will allow printing a single image as easily as higher volumes without set-up costs or delays. Contact Macula Technik for more information.
